Docuseries on tragedy of Malaysian Airlines MH370 coming to Netflix
The new limited series attempts to uncover the mystery behind the disappearance of the Malaysian Airlines plane
A NEW docuseries titled ‘MH370: The Plane That Disappeared’ is set to premiere on Netflix on the ninth anniversary of the tragedy, exploring the events surrounding the tragedy.
On March 8, 2014, Malaysian Airlines Flight 370 disappeared from radar screens, leaving no trace of the 239 passengers and crew on board. Nine years later, and the mystery is nowhere near being solved.
The three-part limited series features a global community of family members, scientists, and investigative journalists who continue to search for answers to the plane’s disappearance.
Episode 1 of the series investigates the first few hours and days following the incident, including the spread of conspiracy theories and false accusations in the aftermath.
While search and rescue operations were ongoing, events took a turn for the worse with the loss of another Malaysian Airlines aircraft, MH17, in July of the same year.
Episode 2 of the docuseries examines the chances of two planes from the same airline crashing within a brief period, and how these events fuelled conspiracy theories even further.
In Episode 3, the series explores the discovery of a large section of a plane wing on the shore off the East African Coast, confirmed by experts and then Malaysian prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak to be from MH370.
However, some journalists and family members are still sceptical, and continue to search for answers.
The series features interviews with Jeff Wise, a science journalist and author of ‘The Plane That Wasn’t There: Why We Haven’t Found MH370’, as well as foreign correspondent Florence de Changy and families of the victims from China, Malaysia, Australia, and France.
Director Louise Malkinson notes that the families want to keep the conversation going and want a platform to remind people that it has been almost a decade since the tragedy occurred.
MH370: The Plane That Disappeared will be released on Netflix on March 8
