Late Father’s Advice Serves As Inspiration For Nurfariesya To Achieve Success In STPM

MELAKA, June 19 (Bernama) — Her late father’s final piece of advice not to waste her potential served as the driving force for Nurfariesya Nasywa Hamedee, 21, to rise above grief and continue her studies, ultimately achieving a Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of 4.00 in the 2025 Sijil Tinggi Persekolahan Malaysia (STPM) examination announced yesterday.

The student from Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Agama (SMKA) Sharifah Rodziah said the success is a special gift for her family after her father, Hamedee Asri, 43, passed away a week before she sat for her Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) trial examination a few years ago.

She said her late father’s passing due to a heart attack at the time caused her to lose motivation, to the point where she considered quitting school to work and support her family.

“The advice for Nurfariesya to study hard, which was conveyed through my mother (Yusnita Ruslan) by my late father, became the motivation for me to bounce back.

“Since then, I have been determined to study hard to fulfill my late father’s wishes,” she told reporters after receiving her STPM results in Telok Mas here today.

Earlier, Nurfariesya was among the excellent students celebrated during the Announcement of the 2025 Melaka State STPM Results, which was officiated by the State Deputy Exco for Education, Higher Education, and Religious Affairs, Datuk Rosli Abdullah.

Elaborating further, the third of four siblings admitted that she did not expect to achieve a CGPA of 4.00, as based on trial results and initial calculations, she only expected to score around 3.92.

The student, who obtained 7As in her SPM examination, said her deep interest in the field of Shariah law since her school days also motivated her to keep striving for excellent results in her studies.

Taking subjects such as General Studies, Arabic, Usuluddin (Islamic Theology), History, and Shariah, she aspires to become a Shariah lawyer and hopes to pursue her studies at Universiti Malaya, having recently completed an interview session for a Bachelor’s Degree program at the university.

Meanwhile, she stated that there is no special secret to achieving academic success other than studying hard, not giving up easily, and always putting her faith in Allah.

Nurfariesya explained that she chose STPM after SPM because she considered it a shorter pathway to pursue a degree, besides opening wide opportunities to enter higher learning institutions.

Meanwhile, a student from Kolej Tingkatan Enam Tun Fatimah, Ng Zhen Hong, 20, brought honor to the state after being named the recipient of the National-Level Best Student Award for the Science Stream in the 2025 STPM examination.

He said the achievement was the result of continuous support from his parents and teachers, alongside a deep passion for science subjects, particularly those involving calculations and problem-solving.

The eldest of two siblings said he spent at least one to two hours a day revising his lessons and always viewed challenges in the field of science as a motivation to succeed.

Ng, who scored 10As in his SPM examination, plans to pursue studies in Chemical Engineering or Electrical Engineering at Universiti Malaya and never expected to emerge as the national-level top student for the science stream.
