TAIPING: Kuala Sepetang state assemblyman (ADUN), Ahmad Man admitted that his intention to join Parti Wawasan Negara (Wawasan) had to be temporarily postponed because he was still bound by the Anti-Party Jumping Act.
He, who is still a member of Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) but whose membership has been suspended, said that any action to join another political party at this time could cause him to face implications under the act.
“I really have to wait. Because if I join any party, I will be punished under the Anti-Party Jumping Act.”
“So I’m still tied up and I’m waiting to be fired,” he said when contacted by Sinar Harian on Friday.
Ahmad said this when asked to comment on his political direction following the announcement of Sungai Manik assemblyman Datuk Zainol Fadzi Paharudin joining Wawasan after being fired from Bersatu.
According to the former Bukit Gantang Bersatu division chief, although he is still serving as Kuala Sepetang assemblyman on the Bersatu ticket, he is now working with the RESET movement, which he described as not being a political party.
Ahmad decided to resign as the Bukit Gantang Bersatu Division Chief before being suspended for disagreeing with the party leadership’s actions against several leaders and members.
He said the decision was later followed by the majority of divisional committees, branches and members who supported him when they declared their exit from Bersatu.
“A day or two after I resigned as Division Head, all my committees, including at the division and branch levels, as well as the members who were with me, also left Bersatu.
“Today, although I am still bound by the Anti-Party Jumping Act and cannot join any party, the Bersatu members who have left will, God willing, precede me to join together in Wawasan,” he said.
He claimed that the response to Wawasan among former Bersatu members in Bukit Gantang was so encouraging that it caused the Bersatu organizational structure in the area to weaken.
Sinar Harian on Thursday reported that Zainol Fadzi announced his participation in Warisan four months after being fired from Bersatu.
In Perak, apart from Ahmad, Chenderoh assemblyman Syed Lukman Hakim Syed Mohd Zin was also suspended from membership by Bersatu, as well as several Bersatu leaders at the divisional level who were also subject to action by the party’s disciplinary board.
