KUALA LUMPUR: Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) has confirmed that it will contest using the Perikatan Nasional (PN) logo in the Johor and Negeri Sembilan state elections, thus reaffirming the party’s commitment to remain in the coalition.
Its president, Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin, said the decision was agreed upon at the Bersatu Supreme Leadership Council meeting held on Tuesday night.
“Bersatu, as one of the founders of PN, will continue to defend its position in the coalition, which is considered to have been well received by the people and has a strong political brand,” he said.
“No party can unilaterally remove Bersatu from PN because any decision regarding membership must be made by consensus in accordance with the provisions of the coalition’s constitution,” he said.
He said this during a press conference after chairing the Bersatu Supreme Leadership Council (MPT) at the Selangor Foundation Tower on Tuesday.
The meeting was also attended by Bersatu vice-presidents Datuk Dr Mohd Radzi Md Jidin and Datuk Seri Ahmad Faizal Azumu; party secretary-general Datuk Seri Mohamed Azmin Ali and Bersatu information chief Datuk Tun Faisal Ismail Aziz.
Meanwhile, Muhyiddin announced that preparations for the Johor and Negeri Sembilan state elections had been initiated in advance, including visits to areas identified for contesting.
According to him, Bersatu has made a decision on the number of seats to be contested in both states based on the agreement reached previously.
He is confident that organized work can help the party achieve victory in the state election.
Muhyiddin also announced that the launch of the Bersatu Johor election machinery would be held on July 21 in Bakri, Muar, in addition to introducing some of the high-profile candidates who had been identified to represent the party.
