TANJONG MALIM: The publisher of Universiti Pendidikan Sultan Idris (UPSI) strengthened its position on the international stage through participation in the Bangkok Fellowship Program in conjunction with the Thailand International Book Fair on March 27 to 28.
Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Research and Innovation), Suriani Abu Bakar, described the recognition from Oxford University Press (OUP) as a proud achievement that reflects the global industry’s confidence in the quality of UPSI’s publications.
According to him, the participation is an important platform to promote local academic works to the world market as well as strengthen UPSI’s brand as a competitive university publisher.
Meanwhile, UPSI Publishers Director, Associate Professor Dr Nordiana Hamzah, said the program brings together international book industry players to expand networks and strategic collaborations.
As a result, UPSI reached an initial agreement for the license sale of 200 Malay e-book titles to OUP, in addition to attracting the interest of a publisher from India, Aram Publication, to obtain the publishing rights of some selected titles.
Throughout the program, UPSI also held negotiations with publishers from various countries including Thailand, China, the United Kingdom, India, Turkey and South Korea to open up opportunities for collaboration and copyright exchange.
UPSI Publishers Editor-in-Chief, Azlan Mohd Dahari, described this participation as a major recognition that proves the quality and marketability of UPSI’s academic work at the global level.
