adminSEPANG, Sept 6 (Bernama) — Thailand’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Sihasak Phuangketkeow arrived in Malaysia tonight for a two-day working visit until Sept 7.
The commercial aircraft carrying Sihasak and his delegation landed at Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) Terminal 1 here at 8.40 pm.
Sihasak, accompanied by senior officials of the Royal Thai Government, was received upon arrival by the Chief of Ceremony of the Prime Minister’s Department, Datuk Rozainor Ramli.
Yesterday, Foreign Minister Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan said he would meet Sihasak in Kuala Lumpur on Monday to discuss efforts to enhance security in southern Thailand, as well as bilateral issues between the two countries.
He said Malaysia had been given the honour by Thailand to serve as a facilitator in negotiations with the parties concerned to help bring about peace in the region.
Mohamad said the meeting would also discuss the best approach to ensure that efforts to promote security and peace in southern Thailand could be effectively implemented.
Wisma Putra, in a statement today, said the visit formed part of the regular exchange of high-level visits between Malaysia and Thailand, underscoring the warm, enduring and multifaceted relationship between the two close neighbours and fellow ASEAN member States.
It said the visit also reflected the commitment of both countries to maintaining close consultations and advancing mutually beneficial cooperation across a broad range of areas.
In 2025, Thailand was the 6th largest trading partner globally and the second largest among ASEAN Member States, with total trade amounting to RM118.57 billion (USD27.73 billion).
From January to July 2026, bilateral trade between the two countries reached RM85.01 billion (USD21.13 billion), compared with RM66.95 billion (USD16.64 billion) during the corresponding period in 2025, reflecting the continued strong growth and potential of economic ties between the two countries.
