PUTRAJAYA, Oct 18 (Bernama) — The Malaysian takaful industry is placing greater emphasis on digital innovation, professional development and customer trust as it seeks to strengthen the role of takaful agents in an increasingly technology-driven financial landscape.
These priorities took centre stage at the Takaful Leaders and Agents Summit (TLAS) 2026, organised by the Malaysian Takaful Association (MTA) under the theme “Lead the Next: Human Trust, Digital Edge, Takaful Excellence”.
The summit featured discussions on artificial intelligence (AI), digital marketing, professional branding and leadership development.
A key highlight was the launch of the Takaful Agent Professional Pathway (TAPP), an industry initiative aimed at strengthening the professionalism and career development of takaful agents.
MTA’s chief executive officer Mohd Radzuan Mohamed said the industry’s future depended not only on product innovation and technological advancement but also on its ability to develop professional, knowledgeable and ethical agents.
“Technology can enhance the efficiency of service delivery, but customer trust remains the foundation of the industry’s success,” he said at the TLAS 2026 yesterday.
He said that through TLAS 2026, MTA aims to nurture a new generation of takaful leaders and agents who not only strive for business excellence but also recognise their responsibility as trusted financial protection advisors to the communities they serve.
Meanwhile, Muar MP Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman made a special appearance during a fireside chat titled “Takaful with Purpose: Bringing Values Back Into Conversation”.
During the session, Syed Saddiq encouraged the industry to move beyond fear-based marketing and promote takaful as part of responsible financial planning, family protection and a healthy lifestyle.
He said the industry must rethink its communication strategies to remain relevant to younger Malaysians, particularly Generation Z, while maintaining the core values of trust and responsibility.
“If you use the same old conventional methods on the younger generation and expect the same results, it will not happen,” he said.
The summit’s agenda also included a session titled “AI Won’t Replace Agents. Agents Using AI Will”, highlighting the growing importance of technological adoption among takaful professionals.
Other sessions focused on building professional brands through digital platforms, social media prospecting, leadership and achieving Million Dollar Round Table (MDRT) excellence.
The programme also featured a chief executive officers’ forum titled “Medi Asas: What You Need To Know”, bringing together industry leaders to discuss issues affecting the takaful sector.
The summit was supported by Unifi as digital partner, Prudential BSN Takaful Bhd as platinum sponsor and AIA PUBLIC Takaful Bhd as gold sponsor.
