adminKULIM: KULIM, March 24 (Bernama) — The suspect in the shooting case in Kampung Permatang Durian, Seberang Paya, Padang Serai here, on March 21, has 13 previous records of criminal and drug-related offenses.
Kulim District Deputy Police Chief DSP Tengku Mohd Faisal Tengku Yeng said the suspect, who works as a lorry driver and is 42 years old, was arrested at a house in Kampung Naga Lilit, Padang Serai, less than 24 hours after the incident.
“Also seized were a 0.38 revolver pistol, 10 bullets and bullet casings, a yellow Honda Civic car and a mobile phone.
“A check of past criminal records found that the suspect, who is also a local citizen, has 13 criminal and drug-related records. However, the suspect’s urine screening test was found to be negative,” he said at a press conference at the Kulim Police Headquarters (IPD), here today.
He said the suspect was arrested at 12.30 midnight on the day of the incident, and was remanded for six days until March 26 to assist in the investigation, while the motive for the incident was still under investigation.
“Initial investigations found that the suspect and the victim knew each other. At the time of the incident, the 32-year-old victim was said to have wanted to go to his mother’s house in Kampung Permatang Durian.
“Witnesses to the incident said there was an argument between the two before the suspect fired a shot that hit the victim’s right arm and chest before fleeing the scene,” he said.
Tengku Mohd Faisal said the victim, who worked as a factory operator, was still being treated at Kulim Hospital, and was reported to be stable.
“The initial medical report found that the shooting did not involve any critical internal organs. A review of the victim’s past criminal records found that there were 12 records related to crime and drugs,” he said.
The case is being investigated under Section 307 of the Penal Code and Section 3 of the Firearms (Heavier Penalties) Act 1971.
“Police are still investigating the ownership status of the gun used by the suspect, even though the suspect admitted that the gun belonged to him,” he said.
In an incident early Saturday morning, a man was reported injured after being shot in Kampung Permatang Durian, Seberang Paya, Padang Serai.
