Selangor revise carefully to builds a resort on agricultural land

SHAH ALAM: The Selangor government through the Selangor Land and Mines Office (PTGS) will conduct research on the construction of resorts on agricultural land throughout the state.

Its director Yusri Zakariah said the research was carried out in a committee with several related agencies under the management of the Selangor State Economic Planning Unit.

He said the parties involved would give views and issue a new policy related to the construction of commercial buildings on agricultural land.

“Apart from Batang Kali, some areas in Kalumpang, Hulu Selangor and around Hulu Langat have a lot of agricultural land that is used as a homestay and sells agricultural produce cultivated on the land.

“In terms of the position of the land, the local authority (PBT) and the District and Land Office (PDT) can identify the condition of the land whether it is good or not,” he said.

He said this after the PTGS Renovation Work Handover Ceremony at the Sultan Salahuddin Abdul Aziz Shah Building Foyer, here today.

Yusri also commented on the issue of land status at Father’s Organic Farm in Batang Kali, Hulu Selangor following the landslide incident last December.

He said PBT and PDT are responsible for identifying the condition of the agricultural land based on technical reviews from the Department of Public Works (JKR) or the Department of Environment (JAS).

Yusri added, PTGS’s role is to provide technical reviews such as the conditions that allow someone to build or carry out commercial activities on the land.

“We are subject to the conditions in Act 838 of the National Land Code (KTN) which explains that only one fifth of the agricultural land can be used to build buildings. The rest must remain as agricultural land.

“Each (agency) is subject to its own law and we will look into the matter and present a policy (construction of resorts on agricultural land),” he said.

Last Dec 21, Chairman of the State Local Government, Public Transport and New Village Development Standing Committee Ng Sze Han said the Father’s Organic Farm in Batang Kali, Hulu Selangor only had a planning permission plan to carry out organic farming activities.
