Sabah Election: Warisan Rules Out Alliances, Chooses to Stand With the People – Shafie Apdal
KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 29 – Parti Warisan Sabah (Warisan) has declared it will not form alliances with any political party in the upcoming 17th Sabah State Election (PRN17), choosing instead to align itself directly with the people.
Its President, Datuk Seri Mohd Shafie Apdal, said the party’s priority is to champion the rights and welfare of Sabahans, especially in addressing their most pressing basic needs.
“Why should there be talk of alliances with other parties? What matters most is that we stand with the people of Sabah, who urgently need support for their basic necessities,” Shafie said during a Bersama Rakyat session in Bengkoka, Pitas, on Saturday.
The Semporna Member of Parliament confirmed that Warisan will field candidates in all 73 Sabah state assembly seats, a decision that has been reaffirmed twice in meetings of the party’s Supreme Council.
“Although some parties have spoken of forming alliances, what’s important is that we have already announced — twice in our Supreme Council meetings — that we will contest all 73 seats,” he said.
Shafie stressed that Warisan’s campaign focus will center on resolving the fundamental issues affecting Sabahans, including water shortages, floods, and fire disasters.
His remarks come amid reports that Barisan Nasional (BN) is open to cooperating with other parties for PRN17, except Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS). BN Chairman Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi previously stated that the coalition seeks to avoid overlapping contests by working with political partners such as Pakatan Harapan (PH) and other like-minded groups.
