KUALA LUMPUR: The dispute between Datuk Seri Rafizi Ramli and Datuk Seri R. Ramanan has entered a new episode when the main BERSAMA leader instructed his legal team to initiate a lawsuit against the Human Resources Minister.
The action followed Ramanan’s press conference on Thursday which allegedly contained various defamatory statements, including allegations linking Rafizi to corruption.
According to Rafizi, the video and transcript of the press conference have been submitted to his legal team for further examination.
“I have discussed with my legal team and they believe there is a strong basis to initiate legal action against R. Ramanan,” he said in a statement today.
However, the dispute also dragged Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim into the fray when Rafizi questioned his statement in Parliament this week regarding Ramanan’s legal action.
Rafizi claimed that Ramanan’s press conference confirmed that the PKR Vice President had not taken court action against him regarding the alleged RM9.5 million bribe to resolve the corporate mafia case.
“R. Ramanan’s press conference confirmed that Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim’s statement in Parliament this week, allegedly that R. Ramanan had taken court action, was untrue,” he claimed.
Following this, Rafizi suggested that members of Parliament refer Anwar to the Parliamentary Rights and Privileges Committee for allegedly making untrue statements in the Dewan Rakyat.
Rafizi also stressed that the lawsuit against Ramanan should continue because, according to him, the minister has yet to respond to several corruption allegations raised against him.
“This action is also appropriate given that R. Ramanan continues to avoid answering several allegations about him and corruption.
“If R. Ramanan refuses to take legal action against me, as a result of his press conference yesterday, it paves the way for me to drag him to court following the accusations made against me,” he added.
