PM Anwar apologizes for decision to ban Israeli apps

KUALA LUMPUR: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has apologised if the decision to ban navigation applications owned by Israeli regime entities in the country has caused inconvenience to the people.

In a post on Facebook, Anwar said the strict measures had to be taken to ensure the security of the country and its people, which cannot be compromised at all.

“I apologize if the decision to ban the Israeli regime’s navigation application has caused inconvenience to the people.”

“However, the issue of national and people’s security cannot be compromised at all because we must defend the sovereignty of the country and the security of people’s personal information,” he said.

Earlier, the Prime Minister said the government had not ruled out the possibility of completely banning the use of the Waze navigation application in Malaysia.

He said the move may be made after the government examines alternatives to replace Waze, including local capabilities to develop similar applications that can function well.

Last Wednesday, the government decided to ban all civil servants from using the Waze navigation application, to protect government information and users’ personal data from the threat of misuse by the Israeli regime.
