KUALA TERENGGANU: PKR is only considering candidates from branches with strong membership and machinery to be put forward in the 16th General Election (GE16).
PKR president Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said the criteria for selecting candidates also depended on the activity of the programs implemented at the branch level.
“Even at the committee level (Central Leadership Council) that recommends (a candidate), I will reject it if (the branch) does not have members or is weak.”
“It is better for us to focus on areas with strong leadership,” he said when speaking at the Terengganu Justice Mini Convention program here today.
Also present were PKR Vice President and Minister of Science, Technology and Innovation Datuk Chang Lih Kang, PKR Secretary-General and Deputy Minister of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Datuk Dr Fuziah Salleh, and the party’s Information Chief and Minister of Communications Datuk Fahmi Fadzil.
At the same time, the Prime Minister called on PKR members in Terengganu to always provide clear information about the MADANI Government’s efforts in ensuring the well-being of the people, especially the poverty eradication agenda.
“Our important and number one plan is to liberate the poorest group, namely the hardcore poor.”
“And to solve this poverty, there must be investment, economic growth and development, funds, etc. So, who should deliver this? You are the one who should deliver it,” he said.
Meanwhile, when met by reporters after the program, Anwar said his party would leave it to the state PKR leadership to determine the target number of seats to be contested in the 16th GE, including in Terengganu.
