Perlis MB suspended from Bersatu membership

KANGAR: The United Indigenous Party of Malaysia (Bersatu) has suspended the membership of Perlis Menteri Besar Abu Bakar Hamzah for two terms of party elections effective October 13.

The letter dated October 14, 2026 was signed by the Chairman of the Bersatu Disciplinary Board, Datuk Mohd Radzi Manan, who informed the decision to suspend the membership of Abu Bakar, who is also the Bersatu Kangar Division Chief.

The matter was confirmed by Perlis Bersatu Chairman, Izizam Ibrahim after the suspension letter went viral on social media.

“Yes, that’s right, the letter was issued last week. The Menteri Besar is also aware of the suspension letter.

“Currently, we are waiting for an official decision from the Bersatu Central leadership and also the PAS State Assemblymen (ADUN),” he said today.

Based on the letter that went viral, the party’s Disciplinary Board, which convened on October 13, decided to suspend Abu Bakar in accordance with Clause 22.5 of the Bersatu Constitution for a period of two party election terms.

The action was taken following allegations of violation of Clause 9.1.4 of the United Constitution and the Members’ Code of Ethics and Conduct.

Abu Bakar was also stripped of all positions held in the party and was prohibited from making any statements in the party’s name during the suspension period.

However, he can still submit an appeal to the party’s Appeals Board within 14 days from the date the notice was issued.
