Most Malaysians Paying Less for Electricity Despite Tariff Restructuring – PM Anwar
PETALING JAYA: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has assured that the recent restructuring of electricity tariffs, which took effect in July 2025, has not burdened domestic consumers.
The majority are now seeing lower electricity bills.
Anwar explained that although tariffs were adjusted, 85% of domestic users have experienced a reduction in their bills, with some households enjoying savings of up to 14% compared to the first half of the year.
“Even though the tariff adjustment came into effect in July 2025, electricity bills have not increased for the people. In fact, due to lower energy generation costs, most users are paying less,” he said.
The Prime Minister also dismissed claims from certain quarters suggesting that the restructuring has led to higher electricity bills, labelling such accusations as false and misleading.
“The tariffs may have changed, but because energy costs have gone down, the actual bills are now lower,” he emphasized.
