Maxis, BSTP Expand GenAI eKelas Programme To 400 Schools

KUALA LUMPUR, June 23 (Bernama) — Maxis, with the Education Ministry’s Educational Resources and Technology Division (BSTP), has launched the enhanced 2026 Program GenAI Maxis eKelas to equip more than 32,000 pupils and teachers from 400 schools nationwide with practical artificial intelligence (AI) skills.

The programme, now in its second year, builds on the success of its 2025 pilot that trained more than 22,000 pupils and teachers and recorded an 80 per cent median increase in participants’ understanding of AI.

In a statement today, Maxis said the 2026 edition retains its dual-track approach for pupils and teachers, supported by Ministry of Education trainer-teachers, while introducing new “vibe-coding” modules aimed at strengthening prompt engineering, digital creation and problem-solving skills.

The programme is also supported by an expanded network of partners comprising Canva Education, Google for Education and Schola by Creador Foundation, which are contributing content and support related to generative AI tools.

The second-year rollout was officially launched at Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan (L) Methodist Sentul here, involving 80 Form Two to Form Five pupils as the first cohort to undertake the new module.

BSTP director Aniza Kamarulzaman said the initiative formed part of efforts to equip pupils with advanced digital competencies while enabling teachers to integrate AI more effectively in teaching and learning.

“To ensure our pupils can lead in the digital future, we must equip them with more than just the fundamentals. This second-year module does exactly that by fostering more advanced digital skills needed to build a truly competitive and future-ready generation,” she said.

Meanwhile, Maxis chief corporate affairs officer Azizul Abdul Rahman said the collaboration with BSTP enabled the programme to move beyond foundational knowledge towards practical application.

“Reflecting our belief that ‘Tomorrow Begins Today’, we are moving beyond foundational knowledge to practical creation. This empowers pupils to become innovators who will actively shape the digital future,” he said.

Maxis eKelas is the company’s flagship community outreach initiative aimed at improving academic performance among pupils from Year Four to Form Five, particularly those from underserved communities.

The Program GenAI Maxis eKelas is delivered through physical workshops in collaboration with BSTP to nurture AI-related skills among pupils and teachers nationwide.
