PERHAPS this writing is a bit personal, but the writer still wants to share his feelings about an artist who receives various titles including sifu and meastro by the name of Datuk M Nasir.
This is also not the first review of M Nasir’s performance; several times the writer has been entrusted with the responsibility of watching, seeing and feeling the atmosphere spread by the outstanding artist over the past several years in the field of entertainment journalism.
However, after sitting down to watch and enjoying the tetralogy or concert saga with the Cipta branding that has been going on since August 2024, the writer feels ‘small’ because of how an amateur writer wants to chronicle the artistic journey and work of M Nasir.
Among the reasons is that M.N47IR CIPTA 4 which took place at the Unifi Arena Kuala Lumpur is a celebration of 47 years of his exploring and translating his diverse works of art; not for himself personally but for ‘reviving’ the names of many local singers quite grandly. Ironically, the writer has only been an entertainment journalist for around 22 years.
What does the writer really know about his works such as Suatu Masa, Bas No 13, Padang Lalang, Empat Penjuru, Andalusia, Berikan Nurbisa or Sahabat Gua and Apokalips (just a few of those sung that night) which are not only far ahead of the time they were created but also how they are full of issues of humanity, feelings, observations and ‘tenderness’ built into the sounds of language, word formation, sentence construction and meaning conveyed in works called pop culture.
M Nasir knows everything. He is like having a pocket Doraemon; ask, and iconic works such as Fantasia Bulan Madu (Search), Dari Kekasih Kepada Kekasih (Datuk Hattan), Sampai Hati (Spring), Azura (Datuk Jamal Abdillah), Sekuntum Bunga Sakura di Gurun Sahara, (Mega) Andai Aku Pergi Dulu (Alleycats) and Istana Menanti (Rahim Maarof) with various nuances were born (also some of the works presented that night).
I don’t know what’s in his brain or how many ‘megabytes’ of data he has manually stored as a human being with this extraordinary talent.
Okay, let’s go to the concert organized by Icon Entertainment.
With the Cipta branding, it is truly significant with the entire concept presented. M Nasir is the creator.
He is a human being created by God with the miracle of touching the souls of other humans through the talents bestowed upon him.
He creates his works based on hunches based on personal feelings or moments and everyday events (I guess so).
He then extended his knowledge by creating works for entertainers according to their own standards and then ‘fertilized’ with the electric touch of M Nasir.
Along with the works he created, M Nasir created an ecosystem or group of musicians who were quite skilled with their respective ‘equipment of war’.
Just look at how delicious and impressive each musician’s playing is led by music director, Aznan Alias who is also a guitarist (one) assisted by assistant music director, Firdaus Mahmud (keyboard) along with other friends such as Rafi Mohd, Norman Abdullah, Ujang Exists, Eddie Slam, Pa’ang Zaman, Awe, Mohar, and singers Yuaz, Eja, Widy, Juanita and Awe. M Nasir has created a chain of local musicians with high quality. And all presented in a concert that carries the Cipta branding.
Congratulations also to Icon Entertainment as the organizer and OPR Network who are experts in providing direction for the organization; you have created another sweet piece of history on the Malaysian entertainment scene that we should be proud of.
There is no need for the writer to write at length about reviews of isolated vocals, forgotten or incorrect lyrics, dim or overly bright lights because the writer’s job is not to judge (this is also certainly expressed by fans themselves on social media) but the writer only wants to enjoy and celebrate the work of national artists who need to continue to be honored, unless there has been a moment that is very illogical or detrimental to many parties, especially fans who spend their money to enjoy the entertainment served.
Meanwhile, if the writer is not mistaken in concluding by seeing how happy the fans were to ‘visit’ the works presented through ‘M Nasir’s way’ which could be different at any time because they were presented live through spontaneous improvisation, the writer believes that everyone received the final concert well.
Although it was not done excessively to gain recognition or praise, in fact the greatest honor that M Nasir and the entire production team received was that the concert went smoothly and successfully completed the study of his artistic treasures that have accompanied us in many phases of life.
With everything the author has said, seeing how the stadium was packed with fans of various generations celebrating M Nasir’s tetralogy with great enthusiasm, it is enough to justify that M Nasir is a magical artist. Thank you M Nasir, may we be able to see, hear, feel and enjoy more of your magical works in the future.
