adminPUTRAJAYA: The Malaysian Highway Authority (LLM) expects traffic to reach 3.49 million vehicles on main highways and extension highways on the peak day of movement in conjunction with the Aidilfitri celebration.
LLM Director-General Mohd Hadzmir Yusoff said the increase in traffic was expected to start as early as tomorrow, especially for users travelling towards the North, South and East Coast.
For major highways, he said the PLUS Group is expected to record 2.30 million vehicles, followed by the West Coast Expressway (WCE) (215,000), the KL-Karak Expressway (210,000), the East Coast Expressway Phase 1 (106,000) and the East Coast Expressway Phase 2 (65,000).
“Meanwhile, for the connecting highways, the Duta-Ulu Kelang Expressway (DUKE) is projected to record 295,000 vehicles, the Kajang-Seremban Expressway (LEKAS) 159,000 and the Kuala Lumpur-Kuala Selangor Expressway (LATAR) 135,000 vehicles,” he said in a statement today.
In this regard, he said all concessionaires have been instructed to ensure that there are no lane closures except for emergencies starting tomorrow until March 30, the activation of 34 smart lane locations on the PLUS Highway and ensuring that the toll collection system operates smoothly with the implementation of layered collection at critical toll plazas.
Mohd Hadzmir said highway operation inspections had also been enhanced, including at Rest and Care (R&R) areas and roadside stops, in addition to the provision of 65 portable toilets, ensuring adequate water supplies, and additional staff and parking at selected locations.
“Users can obtain current traffic information as well as any incidents on the highway via LLM’s official social media, namely the Malaysian Highway Authority’s Facebook and TikTok @llmtrafik or contact the LLM Traffic Management Centre at 1-800-88-7752,” he said.
Highway users are also advised to plan their journeys using the TuJu and Travel Time Advisory (TTA) applications, ensure their vehicles are in good condition and have sufficient balance for toll transactions via Touch ‘n Go, e-wallet or debit card.
Earlier, the government announced a 50 percent toll discount in conjunction with this year’s Aidilfitri celebration to reduce the cost of people’s travel back to their hometowns, effective from 12.01 midnight on March 18 (Wednesday) to 11.59 pm on March 19 (Thursday).
It involves Class 1 private vehicles on all highways, except at the Bangunan Sultan Iskandar (BSI) Toll Plaza and Tanjung Kupang Toll Plaza, Malaysia Singapore Second Link Expressway (LINKEDUA).
