Johor PRN: Puad on PH stage, ‘outspoken’ son with BN

BEHIND the appearance of former UMNO leader, Datuk Mohd Puad Zarkashi on the Pakatan Harapan (PH) campaign stage with Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, his son Omar Hafidz Mohd Puad is seen taking a different stance when he continues to actively assist the Barisan Nasional (BN) campaign in Batu Pahat.

Omar Hafidz, through several social media posts, was seen going to the field with the BN machinery to assist the coalition candidate throughout the campaign period leading up to polling day.

The development came as Mohd Puad stole the spotlight when he appeared on stage with Anwar at a PH campaign program in Johor, as well as openly expressing support for several candidates in the coalition.

The situation creates a rare narrative in local politics when father and son are seen supporting different political coalitions in the same election.

Although Mohd Puad chose to express support for PH, Omar Hafidz’s actions in continuing to work with BN gave the impression that the two’s political stances were made separately.

The difference in stance, however, does not indicate any open conflict between the two, but rather reflects their respective political choices in Johor’s increasingly competitive political landscape ahead of polling day.

This development has also attracted the attention of political observers because Mohd Puad was previously known as one of the important figures in Johor UMNO, while his son remained with the BN machinery in Batu Pahat throughout the campaign.
