NIBONG TEBAL: The Social Welfare Department (JKM) is preparing for the Northeast Monsoon (MTL), including ensuring that nearly 10,000 temporary evacuation centres (PPS) across the country are ready to be activated as needed.
JKM director-general Datuk Che Murad Sayang Ramjan said the PPS activation would be carried out in accordance with the instructions of the National Disaster Management Agency (NADMA) based on the situation and needs in the affected areas.
“We have almost 10,000 PPS, but every year not all of them are activated at the same time. Sometimes only two, three or four states are involved. These places are indeed ready,” he said.
He said this to reporters after the Closing Ceremony of the JKM 2026 MADANI Adoption Village at the Sungai Setar Besar al-Fatah Mosque, Sungai Acheh, here today.
Che Murad Sayang said JKM also ensured that logistics aspects including forward bases and disaster storage depots were in a state of readiness, in addition to food supply stocks including ready-to-eat packaged food (retort) being checked to ensure they were in good condition and had not expired.
For the smooth management of flood victims, he said residents were also exposed to the use of the JKM MyIB application through disaster preparedness training at the community level.
“Through the JKM MyIB system, villagers can register earlier and when moving to PPS, they only need to scan the information that has been registered.
“This measure not only simplifies the victim registration process at PPS, but also the distribution of Benevolence Money Aid (BWI) through Bank Simpanan Nasional (BSN),” he said.
Regarding membership, Che Murad Sayang said the existing workforce is capable of handling flood situations according to JKM’s capacity, while nearly 6,000 volunteers nationwide can be mobilized at any time in the event of a large-scale disaster to assist in the management of PPS and disaster storage depots.
