Gunung Tahan Sustainability Study Expedition 2025: Sultan of Pahang orders thorough inspection of Taman Negara facilities

LIPIS: The Gunung Tahan Trek Sustainability Study Expedition from Merapoh to Kuala Tahan 2025 was carried out at the wishes of the Sultan of Pahang, Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah, to examine and improve facilities in the National Park.

Chairman of the state Communications and Multimedia, Youth, Sports and Non-Governmental Bodies Committee, Fadzli Mohamad Kamal said his Majesty said this because Merapoh National Park has great potential for development.

“This expedition is organised by the Pahang State Government through the Pahang Recreation Council (MRP) and the intention, as ordered by Al-Sultan Abdullah, is for us to provide suggestions and improve facilities along the track from Gunung Tahan.

“The most important thing is that we look at the needs, which are mainly the construction of the campsite, perhaps in terms of placing cabins, building suspension bridges, building toilets or other facilities, and even safety issues in terms of signs or directional signs. We will look at the whole thing.

“If we look at it, Gunung Tahan has great potential, it would be a shame if we don’t develop it fully and that is the wish of the Gunung Tahan Trek Sustainability Study Expedition from Merapoh to Kuala Tahan 2025,” he said on Thursday.

He added that apart from accommodation and security facilities, his party was also reviewing communication access along the 87-kilometre route. “In this expedition, these things (internet access and communication) will also be taken into account. So maybe repeater facilities and so on.”

“As the exco responsible for communications and multimedia, I will submit this proposal to the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission,” he said.

He added that the results of the 2,187-metre mountain expedition, which is expected to end on October 9, will be presented to Al-Sultan Abdullah for further action.

He said this when met at the departure of the Gunung Tahan Trek Sustainability Study Expedition from Merapoh to Kuala Tahan 2025 involving 54 participants representing 20 State and Federal Government agencies at Pahang National Park, Sungai Relau.
