adminBUKIT MERTAJAM: DAP needs to reassess and set a strategic direction to ensure the continuity of the party’s struggle in the future.
DAP secretary-general Anthony Loke Siew Fook said the DAP national convention scheduled to be held in the next few months was the main platform for leadership and members to discuss the future of the party, including ensuring that the party remains strong.
“This is a very important point for the party, for us to think, reflect and discuss the direction to ensure the party continues to move forward,” he said when speaking at the launch of DAP’s 60th anniversary celebration, here, today.
Anthony said the party’s strength depended on the unity of all members regardless of position, from the highest leadership to the grassroots level.
“Throughout the six decades since its establishment, this party has remained committed to the principles of struggle despite facing various challenges, including a long period as the opposition.
“Despite being without power and resources before, we never gave up. This spirit is what has made the party continue to be strong until today,” he said.
Anthony also stressed the importance of continuity in leadership by giving more opportunities to young people to come forward and play a role in the party.
“Without a new generation, the party will have no future. We need to guide and give space to young people to continue the struggle,” he said.
Meanwhile, Anthony, who is also the Minister of Transport, said Penang, which is the only state governed by DAP, must continue to be an example in terms of diversity, justice and development.
He said two major projects that would be the main focus in the next five years were the implementation of the Mutiara Line Light Rail Transit (LRT) Project and the expansion of the Penang International Airport, which would boost development and ensure the state continued to progress.
