adminMELAKA: Barisan Nasional (BN) Melaka has hinted that it will field a balanced line-up of candidates between old and new faces to face the Melaka State Election (PRN) this time.
Melaka BN chairman Datuk Seri Ab Rauf Yusoh said it was to provide an opportunity for the new generation to learn the ins and outs of administration as they would inherit it in the future.
“During my time as the chairman of the state UMNO Liaison Body, I brought in more than 86 percent new faces (during the last Melaka state election).
“We have to be fair to future generations. We have to build this state together so that it becomes a legacy for future leadership,” he said after attending the Melaka State Legislative Assembly (DUN) session at the Seri Negeri Complex here today.
The fifth term of the Melaka State Legislative Assembly is scheduled to end this December, paving the way for this year’s general election.
Ab Rauf, when commenting on PAS’s target to contest 16 out of 28 state seats in this year’s Melaka state election, said it was the party’s right.
“This (Melacak state election) is an open stage. UMNO (and BN) will continue to contest in the seats we have won before,” he said.
