Bersatu Appoints Radzi, Faizal Azumu to Assume Deputy President’s Duties After Hamzah’s Sacking

PETALING JAYA, 14 February 2026 – Bersatu has appointed its vice-presidents, Radzi Jidin and Ahmad Faizal Azumu, to carry out the duties of deputy president following the sacking of Hamzah Zainudin from both the post and the party.

Party president Muhyiddin Yassin said the decision was made unanimously by Supreme Council members who attended a special meeting held at his residence in Bukit Damansara, Kuala Lumpur, this morning.

“I hereby call on all Bersatu members to remain calm while the leadership team, together with me, steers the party back onto its original path of serving and defending the rakyat,” he said in a statement.

Muhyiddin said the meeting focused on measures to strengthen the party following disciplinary actions against several members. The Supreme Council agreed to continue supporting Bersatu’s mission, reinforce unity among members and intensify preparations for the 16th General Election (GE16).

Hamzah, who also serves as Opposition Leader, was among 17 Bersatu leaders reported to have been dismissed from the party yesterday.

Muhyiddin stressed that the disciplinary actions were not taken lightly and were carried out in accordance with the party constitution to ensure Bersatu remains stable and resilient.

“These actions are not taken lightly, especially when they involve senior party leaders,” he said.

“Before any disciplinary action was taken, efforts were made to find common ground and preserve unity within the party through a series of meetings and discussions. Unfortunately, these efforts were unsuccessful.”

He alleged that certain individuals had continuously sabotaged the party with the intention of dividing it and derailing its mission.

“As the president and founder of Bersatu, I have a responsibility to ensure the party remains strong and true to its founding principles. Those of us who have been involved in Bersatu since its inception cannot stand by and watch the party be undermined by irresponsible actors,” he said.

Muhyiddin added that he had approached internal challenges and mounting pressures within the party with restraint and prudence.

“I even included in the party leadership individuals whom I knew opposed me. I acted in good faith to ensure that Bersatu remains united, strong and able to achieve its noble objectives.

“Regrettably, my efforts have not been appreciated. Instead, actions that contravene the party constitution and discipline have continued,” he said.

He warned that if left unchecked, such behaviour would damage the party and disappoint members who remain loyal to its cause.
