NEW DELHI, Sept 12 (Bernama-Sputnik/RIA Novosti) — The global authority and influence of BRICS are steadily growing, Russian President Vladimir Putin said on Saturday, Sputnik/RIA Novosti reported.
Putin arrived in India on Friday for a three-day working visit to attend the BRICS Summit.
“It is quite logical that the authority and influence of BRICS in the world are steadily growing,” Putin said at the summit in New Delhi.
BRICS member states continue to strengthen cooperation across all key areas, including politics and security, the economy and finance, as well as cultural and humanitarian spheres, the President said.
“The BRICS partnership is invariably built on the principles of equality, good neighbourliness and mutual consideration of interests,” Putin said.
He said a growing number of states are declaring their readiness to defend their national interests.
“More and more states are loudly and clearly declaring their readiness to defend their national interests and participate in addressing global issues,” Putin said.
He said further that the global balance of power is shifting in favour of new growth centres in the Global South and the East.
Putin also said that the unipolar system of international relations is becoming a thing of the past.
“The unipolar system of international relations, which served a narrow group of countries, is becoming a thing of the past. The balance of power is being redistributed in favour of new centres of growth in the Global South and East,” Putin said.
Those who are accustomed to dividing the world into a “garden” and “jungle” are creating difficulties for the formation of a multipolar world, Putin added.
The 18th BRICS summit is being held on September 12-13 in New Delhi.
