PUTRAJAYA: All component parties in the Unity Government, especially Barisan Nasional (BN), Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) and Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS), have expressed their commitment to remain with the government led by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim until the end of the administration’s term.
Government spokesman Datuk Fahmi Fadzil said the matter was announced at the Cabinet Meeting on Wednesday.
According to him, the commitment was stated at the Cabinet Meeting, after the Prime Minister touched upon the possibility of the General Election (GE) being held earlier at the meeting.
“The Prime Minister expressed his appreciation for the commitment of all the component party partners in the Unity Government, especially BN, GRS and GPS who stated that they would continue to support and be with the government until the end of the administration’s term.
“This commitment reflects the priority given to the interests of the people and the country, thus enabling the government to focus fully on efforts to address the economic challenges following the crisis in West Asia and ensure that the welfare of the people continues to be maintained,” he said.
He said this at the weekly press conference here, on Wednesday.
Meanwhile, Fahmi, who is also the Minister of Communications, said that next week’s Cabinet meeting will be held on Monday.
At the Pakatan Harapan (PH) 2026 Convention in Johor Bahru last Sunday, the Prime Minister, who is also PH Chairman, hinted at the possibility of dissolving Parliament to hold the 16th General Election (GE16) early if the partners in the Unity Government continue to act to undermine political stability in the country.
