adminKUALA LUMPUR: Keretapi Tanah Melayu Berhad (KTMB) has launched the largest addition of electric train services (ETS) in its history in conjunction with the 2026 Aidilfitri peak period from March 17 to 29.
Transport Minister Anthony Loke Siew Fook said this proactive measure is to meet the high demand from the public to return to their hometowns in a smooth and comfortable manner.
“In comparison, the number of additional ETS trains for Aidilfitri 2026 has increased to 196 trips, compared to only 56 trips in 2025, an increase of 140 trips or 250 percent.
“The additional train operating period has also been extended from 10 days to 13 days compared to the previous year, while for the first time, the EMUPlus service has been introduced with 32 additional trips that were not offered previously.
“In terms of capacity, the total number of seats increased to 251,752, compared to 118,440 last year, which is a jump of 113 percent,” explained Loke.
He said this during a press conference after attending the 2026 Hari Raya Aidilfitri Pack Distribution Ceremony for KTMB Passengers at KL Sentral, on Tuesday.
He further explained that this initiative is supported by the receipt of the new ETS3 train set which allows operations to be optimised up to 64 trips per day, with a maximum capacity of 70 trips per day depending on demand.
To date, 177,796 or 99 percent of scheduled ETS tickets have been sold, while a total of 26,972 or 44 percent of additional ETS tickets have been purchased.
Meanwhile, to ensure smooth operations throughout the festive season, a total of 310 KTMB Auxiliary Police personnel will be stationed at major stations including KL Sentral, Butterworth, Alor Setar and Padang Besar.
