FINAS ready to consider funding special drama series for veteran artists

KUALA LUMPUR: The National Film Development Corporation of Malaysia (FINAS) is ready to consider a proposal to create a fund for the production of drama series specifically for veteran artists, through an adaptation of an existing initiative, namely the Veteran Star Supertelefilm Fund (STAR).

FINAS Chairman, Datuk Hans Isaac, said he would bring the proposal to the FINAS corporate committee level and the Ministry of Communications for further discussion and coordination of documentation.

“This proposal is indeed a very thoughtful initiative and deserves attention,” he told reporters after the Tribute and Appreciation Programme for National Veterans in conjunction with the 35th Malaysian Film Festival (FFM) at FINAS, Hulu Klang, here, last night.

He commented on the proposal of popular veteran actor, AR Badul, who suggested that a special fund be created for the production of long-duration drama series to enable veteran artists to continue to actively work on a rotating basis.

Badul said that the serial drama format can open up space for 10 to 15 veteran actors to act simultaneously in a single project, compared to the relatively limited number of characters in a conventional telefilm format.

Commenting further on the development of the initiative, Hans informed that, based on last year’s record, a total of 10 telefilm projects were successfully completed for broadcast by Radio Televisyen Malaysia (RTM) under the funding of the fund.

Meanwhile, Badul, whose real name is Armaya Aman Ramlie, said that the veteran artist still has the strength, a strong soul and a deep interest in acting in front of the camera.

“We really appreciate the community’s support, but what means more to artists is the opportunity to continue working and contributing their talent as long as needed,” he said, who was invited as a forum panel member along with veteran actress Norlia Ghani at the program.

The program was held as part of the campaign ahead of the 35th FFM, which is scheduled to take place on Nov 21.
