Open to contesting again in Selangor, Zafrul hands over decision to leadership

KUALA LUMPUR: The intention to contest in the upcoming 16th General Election (GE16) has not yet been finalised and depends entirely on the decision of the party leadership, said PKR Political Bureau Exco Tengku Datuk Seri Zafrul Tengku Abdul Aziz.

He, who is also Senior Political Advisor to the Prime Minister, Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, said he had expressed his personal wish to be given the opportunity to contest in his home state, Selangor, but the final decision had not yet been made.

“I personally don’t have a target . It’s up to the leadership, especially the President. I have given suggestions so that if possible, especially when there is a general election, I will be given the opportunity to contest in my state, in Selangor,” he said.

According to him, so far he has spent a lot of time in the Ampang area and surrounding areas such as Pandan, in addition to helping monitor several other areas in his capacity as a party official and as a representative of the Prime Minister.

“I spend a lot of time in Ampang, as well as in the area around Pandan and several other areas where I am asked to help,” he said.

He said this when met by the media after the TZA Foundation Appreciation Ceremony in Kuala Lumpur on Thursday.

He added that any decision regarding the nomination would only be determined by the party president and PKR’s top leadership.

“If given a mandate, I hope it will be in Selangor. But wait for the party’s decision,” he added.
