GE: PH examines Amanah’s desire to expand its control of seats in the Federal Territories

KUALA LUMPUR: Pakatan Harapan (PH) will bring the Federal Territories Amanah Negara (Amanah)’s desire to expand its control of parliamentary seats, including Putrajaya, in the 16th General Election (GE16) to the secretariat level for further discussions.

Its Secretary-General, Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail, said the matter would go through an official process including discussions in the Chairs Consultative Committee before any decision was finalised.

“This matter will be brought to the secretariat level and we have a chair negotiation committee.

“That is the order. For now, it is still at an early stage of discussion,” he said.

He said this at a press conference after the Mekar Didik Initiative Documentation Handover Ceremony and Lane Counter Programme here, on Thursday.

Meanwhile, Saifuddin Nasution said that negotiations regarding the distribution of seats among PH component parties will only begin when the time is right and that he does not see the matter as a major issue at this time.

“When the time comes, we will begin the negotiation process. So far, it has not been an issue,” he said.

Previously, the Federal Territories Trust expressed its intention to expand its control of parliamentary seats in the upcoming GE16, including targeting Putrajaya as one of the key constituencies.

Its chairman, Khalid Abdul Samad, said his party was also ‘scouting’ two other parliamentary seats in the Federal Territory, namely Labuan and Titiwangsa.
