Entrepreneurs in the agricultural sector need to apply technology optimally

ALOR GAJAH: Agricultural sector entrepreneurs, especially downstream product entrepreneurs, are advised to apply modern technology optimally to increase productivity, quality and marketability of produce.

Melaka Chief Minister Datuk Seri Ab Rauf Yusoh said the use of technology such as the Internet of Things (IoT) and artificial intelligence (AI) not only modernizes agricultural operations, but also acts as a catalyst for the development of more competitive downstream products.

He said the technology allows the production process to be carried out automatically without constant monitoring, thus increasing efficiency, reducing labour costs and increasing production yields.

“In the agricultural sector, we found that there are new technologies introduced in the Gadek area that can be highlighted and modernized to expand the marketability of products.”

“For example, the use of IoT in tilapia farming combined with AI allows food control, water levels and pH levels to be carried out automatically without the need for close supervision,” he said after holding the Gadek Entrepreneur Icon Visit: Agrofarm Sahabat Gadek Enterprise in conjunction with the People’s Representative for the People programme for the Gadek State Legislative Assembly here on Wednesday.

He said the production of quality basic products through modern technology needed to be followed by the development of downstream products to increase added value and competitiveness in the market.

“We see that if this technology is promoted, it can become a product that can be better marketed, including in downstream sectors such as processing, packaging and branding,” he said.

He said that for this purpose, the state government would continue to support entrepreneurs through guidance and mentoring programmes to ensure they were able to adapt technology and grow their businesses to a higher level.

“God willing, we will nurture, educate and assist these entrepreneurs as best we can so that the technology introduced can serve as a guide for the younger generation to venture into modern agriculture.”

“This effort will not only attract the interest of young people, but will also strengthen the country’s agro-food ecosystem as a whole,” he said.
