FORMER Prime Minister, Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad, returned to work at his office at the Perdana Leadership Foundation (YKP), in Putrajaya, today, after undergoing a long period of health rehabilitation since the beginning of this year.
Through a video recording shared on his official Instagram account, the 100-year-old statesman’s return was greeted with full respect and a cheerful atmosphere by the foundation’s staff.
He, wearing a grey bush jacket, was seen walking into the building lobby while smiling at the staff who were faithfully awaiting his arrival.
“As long as possible…” Dr Mahathir wrote briefly in the comments section, describing his determination and strong spirit to remain active in contributing to the country despite reaching the age of a century.
His return to the office follows a series of intensive treatments at the National Heart Institute (IJN) since January due to a hip injury he suffered.
He reportedly underwent surgical procedures and a rigorous physiotherapy phase before being allowed to leave the hospital to continue his recovery at home in mid-March.
Going to the comments section on the post, netizens expressed their admiration and inspiration for his tenacity.
Instagram user @bena1i described Dr Mahathir’s spirit as inspiring to work hard to achieve success, while @n_shidao803 described him as an inspirational figure and hopes to have the opportunity to get advice from the figure face to face one day.
Dr Mahathir’s return to YKP not only attracted the attention of online citizens but also reflected his continued commitment to developing the Malaysian leadership landscape through documenting the history and thoughts of national figures for the reference of future generations.
