MELAKA: The state government will conduct an immediate investigation into a viral post on social media that allegedly promotes lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) and is linked to the Aidilfitri celebration in Merlimau, Jasin.
State Education, Higher Education and Religious Affairs Exco Datuk Rahmad Mariman said his party had received information regarding the matter and further checks were being carried out, including confirming the exact location of the incident.
He said the post uploaded via the Threads platform allegedly took place in Kampung Batu Gajah, Merlimau, but the authenticity of the information was still under investigation.
“An investigation will be carried out immediately to ensure the authenticity of the matter, including the location of the incident if it actually happened.”
“We do not want to draw any premature conclusions, but rather give room for a thorough and comprehensive investigation process,” he said when contacted by the media, here today.
The investigation also involves legal research to determine whether there have been any violations of the law and what actions can be taken against the parties involved.
“Whatever action will be decided based on the results of the investigation and existing legal provisions,” he said.
Earlier, a photo went viral on social media showing an individual believed to be a man with a feminine appearance posing with another man, with both wearing matching pink clothes.
The post was accompanied by the caption “Jodoh Lebaran Dah Tiba. Alhamdulillah” and the location was Kampung Batu Gajah, Merlimau.
The sharing sparked various reactions among social media users, with some of them condemning the action, which was allegedly promoting LGBT and linked to the Aidilfitri celebration.
