
Sabah PRN: Leaders, candidates, supporters advised to maintain good conduct – IGP
KUALA LUMPUR: All political leaders, candidates and party supporters are advised to maintain good conduct and obey the law throughout the 17th Sabah State Election (PRN), in line with the spirit of national unity and harmony.
Inspector-General of Police, Datuk Seri Mohd Khalid Ismail, said Malaysia as a multi-racial country needs to maintain a peaceful and stable atmosphere to ensure that the democratic process can be carried out smoothly and ethically.
“We are a multi-racial country and live in good conditions and harmony. Therefore, I call on all parties involved in this election to maintain good morals, discipline and comply with the law so that the election can be carried out perfectly,” he said.
He said this to reporters after the Graduation Parade Ceremony for the Police Basic Training Programme (PLAK) for Probationary Inspectors No. 13, Series 1/2025 at the Police Training Centre (Pulapol) here, on Friday.
Mohd Khalid also stressed that the Royal Malaysian Police (PDRM) is committed to ensuring that the safety of the people and voters is always maintained, in line with the force’s goal of ensuring the peace and stability of the country is under good and effective supervision.
The Sabah State Legislative Assembly (DUN) was officially dissolved on October 6 to pave the way for the 17th general election to be held within 60 days as stipulated in the Sabah State Constitution.
Last Wednesday, the Election Commission (EC) confirmed receiving a writ declaring the dissolution of the Sabah State Legislative Assembly from the Speaker of the Sabah State Legislative Assembly, Datuk Seri Kadzim M Yahya.
EC Secretary, Datuk Khairul Shahril Idrus, said the receipt of the writ marked the beginning of the official process for the implementation of the Sabah 17th general election.
In this regard, the EC will hold a special meeting next Thursday to discuss important dates and matters related to the 17th Sabah general election, including the date of candidate nomination, early voting and polling day.
