RM250,000 Allocated to Upgrade Health Clinics in Bukit Bendera Constituency

GEORGE TOWN, Jan 30, 2026 — Five public health clinics in the Bukit Bendera parliamentary constituency have received a total of RM250,000 under the MYKHAS Infrastructure Project to improve facilities and strengthen primary healthcare services for local communities.

The allocation, amounting to RM50,000 per clinic, benefitted Klinik Kesihatan Air Itam, Klinik Kesihatan Ibu dan Anak Padang Tembak, Klinik Kesihatan Ibu dan Anak Tanjung Tokong, Klinik Kesihatan Tanjung Bungah, and Klinik Desa Batu Feringghi.

Member of Parliament for Bukit Bendera, Puan Syerleena Abdul Rashid, expressed her appreciation to the Ministry of Health, the Penang State Health Department, and implementing agencies for the successful execution of the project.

The upgrade works included the supply and installation of medical and support equipment, roof and ceiling repairs, repainting of clinic walls, and improvements to facilities for both healthcare workers and patients. The projects were carried out between August and November 2025 by local contractors appointed in accordance with established procurement procedures.

According to Syerleena, the improvements are expected to enhance operational efficiency, safety, and patient comfort, while strengthening the delivery of primary healthcare services in the Northeast District of Penang. The upgrades particularly benefit mothers, children, senior citizens, and patients with chronic illnesses.

“Healthcare is not a privilege but a fundamental right of every citizen. Strong primary healthcare clinics form the backbone of a resilient national healthcare system,” she said in a statement.

She added that well-equipped and properly maintained clinics help prevent illnesses from becoming more severe and costly to treat, while reducing inequality in access to healthcare and preserving the dignity of all Malaysians regardless of background or income.

Syerleena also highlighted the importance of continued investment in primary healthcare infrastructure amid rising living costs and an ageing population. She said prioritising public healthcare funding, modernising ageing facilities, and integrating digital health technologies are essential to ensure services remain accessible, efficient, and people-centric.

She expressed hope that similar initiatives would be expanded in the future, including larger allocations for structural upgrades, expanded service capacity, and long-term maintenance planning to ensure clinics remain safe, functional, and prepared for future challenges.

The MP also thanked all agencies, contractors, healthcare workers, and residents of Bukit Bendera for their continued support in strengthening community-level healthcare services.
