Yolanda Charles 6 Piece Project PH Main Stage at The UK Bass Guitar Show
Formed by Yolanda Charles, guests at The UK Bass Guitar Show should get ready to get their funk on when the 6 -piece Project PH takes to the main stage Sunday 3rd of April at the ACC Liverpool.
“This band express their music sometimes with tightly choreographed detail and sometimes loosely performed, signalling accents or arrangement changes with a nod or glance. The scope for interplay and connection is wide and allows the musicians room to ‘breathe’. No two shows are ever the same. In Project PH there is to be found a mix of beautiful ballads, heavy instrumental tracks and RnB influenced soulful tunes.”
About Yolanda
UK Bassist Yolanda Charles started her career in the music business playing for Jimmy Sommerville from The Communards and within London bands Raw Stylus and Urban Species in the 1990’s.
A career as a session bassist followed working with artists such as: Paul Weller, Marcella Detroit, Pops Mohammed, Alison Moyet, Desert Eagle Discs, Gabrielle, Robbie Williams, BB King, Eric Clapton, Roger Daltrey, Van Morrison, Mick Jagger and recording for Michael Jackson with Jermaine Jackson producing. Work from 2010 onwards included performing live with Anastasia, Lulu, Heather Small, Natasha Bedingfield, Sinead O’Connor, Daryl Hall, Musical Director for Dave Stewart’s London appearances, and in TV housebands for shows hosted by Ricky Wilson (Kaiser Chiefs) & Nicole Scherzinger (Pussy Cat Dolls).
Yolanda’s more recent work includes performing with composer Hans Zimmer beginning with London concerts in 2014 then European & world tours in following years. She has also worked on various film soundtracks including “A Knight’s Tale” “Alfie” “Home” “War on Everyone” & “Boss Baby’. In 2018 Yolanda broadened her scope of work accepting engagements with Laura Mvula, Mercury Award nominee Eska, Pianist Tomasz Bura’s Jazz Fusion quartet and as part of the Brian Jackson trio UK Band (Gil Scott-Heron co- writer).
2017 she also recorded the latest album with British band Squeeze, “The Knowledge” touring in the UK and US throughout 2017 – 2019
During the 2020 lockdowns, Yolanda performed live with Squeeze, recorded bass for various artists such as Johnny Logan, sessions for Lorne Balfe and played on film soundtracks Dune and Boss Baby II with Steve Mazzaro and Hans Zimmer.
2021 has seen the start of Yolanda’s focused launch as a music business consultant. Her work in the education field as a mentor and bass teacher has impressed upon her that there is a need for a service to help young musicians and those seeking advice regarding their motivation and career in the music business.
