Yasin needs immediate psychiatric treatment – Lawyer
KUALA LUMPUR: Singer and composer, Yasin Sulaiman who is currently detained at the Sungai Buloh Prison, Selangor needs to seek treatment from a psychiatrist immediately.
His lawyer, Yusmadi Yusoff, said he had personally met Yasin, 47, last Thursday and his client asked for his treatment to be expedited.
He said, although Yasin looked physically healthy and received good care from the prison, but his mental health needed expert observation.
“God willing, tomorrow I will write an official letter to the Director of Sungai Buloh Prison to request attention from the prison.
“The Magistrate also ordered the party in charge of Yasin to provide treatment.
“Alhamdulillah, he received good treatment in prison and I would like to thank the prison officials.
“Even so, I will try to get the proper treatment that he gets to be expedited,” he said when contacted by Astro AWANI, here, today.
Yusmadi explained that apart from Yasin, a family member of the composer of the song Mimpi Laila himself had referred to him to provide records of Yasin’s treatment.
“It includes treatment with a specialist at Pantai Hospital and he and we (the team of lawyers) are in the process of obtaining treatment records at Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia Hospital (now known as Tuanku Muhriz Chancellor’s Hospital) which he was admitted to for almost more than two weeks in 2009.
“Through Yasin, I have got the names of doctors he has treated because the process to get these reports has to go through a procedure including getting permission from the patient because it involves his personal records,” he said.
Commenting further, Yusmadi explained that Yasin did not hide about the illness he suffered because the matter had been in the public space such as videos or news for the past few years.
Previously, Yasin was not allowed bail by the Sessions Court and Magistrate on two charges of distributing and planting 17 cannabis trees at his residence at Persiaran Surian Damansara Indah Resort Home, PJU 3 Kota Damansara and set May 18 for re -mention of the case.
