XPDC vocalist Mael has died
KUALA LUMPUR : XPDC group singer Syed Ismail Syed Ibrahim or Mael, 55, died at Muar Hospital around 9.30 last night (Thursday, April 27).
The sad news was confirmed by her daughter, Sharifah Irfatasha, through a text message on WhatsApp: “It is with great sadness to inform you that my father passed away at Muar Hospital on Thursday, April 27, 2023, at approximately 9.30 pm.”
At the same time, the news was also shared through the Facebook account of the Slam group manager, Johan Aziz, who quoted a notification from the XPDC manager.
“Innalillahi wainna ilaihi rojiun. Al-Fatihah. Receive news from XPDC manager, Bro Yazid… XPDC singer, Syed Ismail Syed Ibrahim (Mael) breathed his last at Muar Hospital at 9pm last night.
“May his soul be placed with the beloved of God,” he said in the message.
Meanwhile, Bro Yazid said, Mael is known to suffer from wheezing caused by chronic asthma.
In August 2019, Mael was once reported to have been rushed to the hospital after experiencing pain and being unable to move. At Muar Hospital as well, he received treatment until his condition recovered.
The country’s leading heavy metal band, based on planning, wants to perform successfully with the Khalifa group on May 7, in conjunction with the organization of the Sound Valley Festival 2023.
Bro Yazid in a press conference in early April said that Mael’s health is seen to be in good condition, and XPDC has also held several performances and concerts since the beginning of 2023 without any problems.
Around 1990 until the beginning of 2000, XPDC which consisted of Mael, Izo, Zuar and Amy managed to record the best album sales exceeding 100,000 units. The amount was recorded through the sales of Darjah Satu (1990), Timur Barat (1992), Kita Peng-Yu (1994), Brutal (1997) and several compilation albums.
