World premiere of ‘Avatar: The Way Of Water’ in South Korea

SEOUL: Avatar: The Way of Water opened in cinemas in South Korea on December 14, making it the first country in the world to screen the long-awaited sequel to the 2009 sci-fi blockbuster , its local distributor said on Tuesday.

Director James Cameron and producer Jon Landau and the film’s cast, including Sam Worthington, Zoe Saldana, Sigourney Weaver and Stephen Lang, plan to visit Seoul on December 9 to meet local audiences ahead of the film’s premiere, according to Yonhap News Agency citing Walt Disney Company Korea.

The second sequel to Avatar comes 13 years after the first story and the film reportedly took over three hours to run.

Set 15 years after the events of the first film, the sequel follows the family journey of Jake Sully and Neytiri and their five children.

The film’s official trailer features stunning visual effects exploring the aquatic landscape of the planet Pandora.

Avatar is hailed as a breakthrough in filmmaking technology and still remains the highest grossing film of all time worldwide.
