Woman claims Mike Tyson raped her in a limousine
NEW YORK: A woman in New York has filed a lawsuit against former boxing champion Mike Tyson who allegedly raped her in a limousine vehicle in the early 1990s.
The woman, whose identity has been withheld, filed her complaint in early January under a temporary New York state law that allows victims of sexual assault to seek civil damages regardless of the statute of limitations.
Tyson served three years in prison in 1992 after being found guilty of raping a model, Desiree Washington, who was then 18 years old.
In a brief affidavit dated December 23, 2022, the plaintiff stated that she met Tyson at a nightclub in the early 1990s and then followed the boxer to a limousine where she was attacked before being raped.
“As a result of being raped by Tyson, I suffered and suffered physical, psychological and emotional injuries,” he said.
The woman is seeking US$5 million (RM21.35 million) in damages.
But until Tuesday, Tyson did not issue any public statement.
Brooklyn-born Tyson was an undefeated champion in the 1980s and was the most feared boxer of his opponents.
However, after being sentenced to prison, Tyson failed to retain his championship.
In the most memorable fight in boxing history in 1996, Tyson bit off the ear of his opponent Evander Holyfield.
