A SEQUEL to The Devil Wears Prada is reportedly in the pipeline for release.
Famous Hollywood actress Meryl Streep is still on the list to reprise her role as Miranda Priestly, the editor of an influential fashion magazine following the original film that was shown in 2006, Puck News reported.
However, the report said, it is not yet known whether actress Anne Hathaway will return to acting and play the role of Andy Sachs in the Disney-produced film.
Meanwhile, actress Emily Blunt is understood to be in discussions to return as Emily Charlton.
According to a Variety report, The Devil Wears Prada screenwriter Aline Brosh McKenna is also in talks to return and write the script for the sequel.
As of now, Disney has yet to make an official announcement.
Early reports suggest the film will pit Priestly against his former colleague, Charlton, who is the top executive at the magazine’s publishing company.
The Devil Wears Prada was originally published based on the best-selling book by author Lauren Weisberger.
Rumors of the sequel’s production spread just a few months after Hathaway appeared to downplay the idea.
Hathaway said on entertainment news channel E! News: “I don’t think the continuation of the story is likely to happen.”
The actress admitted she would “love” to see the trio reunite with director David Frankel, but, for her, The Devil Wears Prada should be left in its original position.
Says Hathaway: “The fact is, with any movie, all we can do is make it.”
“The reason the film was so special was because we were in a team and we did the work… and really because of the love that everyone poured into the film.
“So let’s stick to what we all lovingly agree on.” In The Devil Wears Prada, Hathaway played Sachs, Priestly’s personal assistant.
