‘What did PH do for 14 years?’ – Najib questioned the proposed collapse of the Shah Alam Stadium

KUALA LUMPUR: Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak questioned the action of the Selangor State Government which was reported to be considering the possibility of demolishing the Shah Alam Stadium.

The former prime minister said the stadium was laden with history in the local football scene and had a capacity of 80,300 people, making it one of the largest in Asia and the world.

“(Shah Alam Stadium) cannot be separated from Selangor FC as Old Trafford and Anfield are closely linked with Manchester United and Liverpool.

“Only built in 1994, the stadium was only 14 years old before its care was taken over by the PR / PH (Pakatan Rakyat / Pakatan Harapan) government in 2008, and after 14 years of PH guarding, the stadium is said to have suffered severe damage and could not be salvaged?

“Will it be demolished and replaced with a new stadium with a capacity of only 30,000 to 40,000 on the grounds that the smaller stadium is easier to maintain?

“Less than half with Alam Shah Stadium?”

“What did PH do in the 14 years they took care of this stadium? Why would what fell into PH’s hands be ruined?”

“The Merdeka Stadium is tens of years older. We will never want to demolish it,” Najib asked in a Facebook post, on Tuesday.

Earlier, the media reported that Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari, did not deny that there was a proposal to demolish the Shah Alam Stadium and that his party would explain in detail about the stadium’s latest development proposal on July 16.
