KUALA LUMPUR – Police are investigating several viral videos showing a woman trying on clothes in a changing room in a mall.
Authorities believed that the clips were captured by a hidden camera in a changing room of a fashion brand, and later sold on social media.
This incident was first exposed by a Twitter user known as @meleisgw even though the original post of the videos has been deleted.
Several victims were said to have contacted @meleisgw as was mentioned in subsequent tweets.
Following this, the fashion retailer lodged a report at the Dang Wangi district police headquarters.
Dang Wangi district police chief Noor Dellhan Yahaya told The Vibes’ sister portal Getaran that the report was received on Monday and an initial probe is ongoing into when and where the incident took place.
The case is being investigated under Section 509 of the Penal Code – criminal offence to “intrude upon the privacy” of a person.
Upon conviction, an offender may be punished with imprisonment of up to five years or fined or both.
