US House bans TikTok on government devices
FBI warns data collected on app could be ‘maliciously’ used by Beijing
The Office of Cyber Security considers the TikTok mobile app to be a high risk to users due to some of its security features.
NEW YORK: The popular video sharing app TikTok will not be allowed on official devices used by the House of Representatives and government employees, according to the United States (US) Office of the Chief of Administration.
“The Cyber Security Office considers TikTok’s mobile app to be a high risk to users due to some of its security features.
“If you have the TikTok application on a mobile device for official use, you will be contacted to remove the application,” the office said in an e-mail sent to House of Representatives members and staff on Tuesday.
US officials last month warned that data collected on the app could be “misused”, Anadolu Agency reported.
The US$1.7 trillion spending bill passed by the Senate last week also defined a ban on using TikTok on almost all government devices in the US.
Once signed into law, the ban will cover almost all government agencies.
