University students fined RM600 for uploading illegal links to the High Council Project
KUALA LUMPUR : A 22-year-old university student was fined RM600 after being found guilty of uploading an illegal link to the drama series Projek High Council owned by Measat Broadcast Network Systems Berhad.
The order was issued by the Kuala Lumpur Magistrate’s Court after the accused pleaded guilty to possessing the link without permission on his device.
The accused is charged in accordance with Section 29(1) of the Petty Offenses Act 1955, providing for a fine not exceeding RM1,000 or imprisonment for not more than one year or both, if convicted.
Astro through a statement on Tuesday stated that the police report was made on February 14.
“His mobile phone and laptop were confiscated and the accused was remanded for two days to assist the investigation.
“The raid on the suspect was carried out by a team of members from the Cheras District Police Headquarters on February 11,” according to the statement.
The drama series produced by Astro has received an extraordinary response from the audience since it started airing.
Starring Nadhir Nasar, Mierul Irfan and Naim Daniel, the drama tells the story of the ‘way of life’ at a boarding school, including incidents of bullying that are not publicized.
