KUALA LUMPUR: The Ulek Mayang -themed costume brought good luck to the Malaysian representative at Miss Grand International, Lishalliny Kanaran, when she was crowned the winner of the best national costume, last night.
Named ‘7 Puteri Purba Ulek Mayang’, it takes inspiration from the Terengganu folk song, which according to the story, became part of a healing ceremony for possessed fishermen.
Accompanied by seven ‘princess statues’, Lishalliny dressed like a magician in black and gold.
The seven princesses were dressed in blue and gold, equipped with luxurious head accessories.
The win also saw 24 -year -old Lishalliny place herself in the top 20.
On the final night in Bangkok, Thailand, Vietnam’s Tien Thuc Thuy Nguyen was crowned the winner, while Stephanie Mercedes Medina from Ecuador and Lorena Gonçalves Rodrigues from Brazil were in second and third place respectively.
