U-Wei was invited as the head of the jury for the documentary selection at the Moscow International Film Festival

KUALA LUMPUR: Famous film director, U-Wei Saari was appointed as head of the jury for the Best Documentary selection for the Moscow International Film Festival, Russia.

In addition to U-Wei, several other directors from Russia and Kazakhstan were also invited as judges at the festival that will take place at the end of this month.

Previously, the Mentakab native had been invited several times as a jury at several international film festivals abroad.

“My interest in documentary films other than fiction films is one of the reasons for the organizers to invite me as the head of the jury.

“We will judge or give an assessment to the documentary films which we should praise until we are given an award if possible,” he told Astro AWANI .

U-Wei’s selection as head of the jury at an international film festival is a tribute to the country’s film world.

The film Kaki Bakar directed by U-Wei based on the novel Barn Burning by the American writer William Faulkner is the first film from Malaysia to be invited to the Cannes Film Festival.

After Kaki Bakar , the film he directed, Sephon Rambutan Indah Kepunyaan Ku Di Tanjung Rambutan was also invited to The Directors’ Fortnight at the same film festival in 2006.
