Two men fined RM20,000 for cockfighting

They are accused of causing an animal fight, which is a chicken, in the chicken fighting ring of a shed behind a house in Kampung Bukit Tok Beng, Kuala Nerus at 4.15 am, 3 September 2020.

KUALA TERENGGANU: Two men were fined RM20,000 each by the Sessions Court here today, after pleading guilty to being involved in a cockfighting case three years ago.

Judge Nazlyza Mohamad Nazri made the decision after Mohd Nazir Mohd Dagang, 47, and Mohd Raimi Manaf, 33, pleaded guilty to charges under Section 32 (1)(a) of the Animal Welfare Act 2015 (Act 772) and read together with Section 34 of the Penal Code .

According to the charges, they were charged with causing an animal fight, namely chickens, in the chicken fighting ring of a shed behind a house in Kampung Bukit Tok Beng, Kuala Nerus at 4.15 am, 3 September 2020.

The judge set a fine of RM20,000 or six months in prison if the accused failed to pay the fine.

The prosecution was handled by Terengganu Veterinary Services Department Prosecuting Officers Mohd Shahihan Mohd Tahar and Fazlizan Ishak Khan.

Mohd Nazir, who is a lekor cracker entrepreneur, is represented by lawyer Puteri Hikmatul Raudah Dzulaika Mohamad, while Mohd Raimi, a technician, is represented by lawyer Najmi Adila Mohd Nasir.
