Twitter will review its user authentication feature – Elon Musk
TWITTER will review its user verification process, Elon Musk said in a tweet on Sunday.
The statement came just days after he took over one of the world’s most influential social media platforms.
“The entire verification process is being overhauled,” Musk said in his tweet without providing further details on what might change.
In the meantime, technology portal Platformer on Sunday said Twitter is considering charging a fee for ‘blue tick’ verification of the account holder’s identity.
According to the report, users will have to subscribe to Twitter Blue at US$4.99 per month or lose their “verified” badge if the project is implemented.
The CEO of Tesla Inc has not made a final decision and the project could still be cancelled.
But according to Platformer, it’s likely that the authentication feature will be part of Twitter Blue.
Twitter Blue launched in June last year as the platform’s first subscription service offering “exclusive access to premium features” including the ability to edit tweets.
The feature also became available earlier this month after Musk pushed through a public survey in April asking if users wanted an ‘edit’ button.
More than 70 percent said “yes”.
