Twitter to consider charging for ‘verified’ mark
A few days after taking over Twitter, Elon Musk said that the social media platform will revise its user verification process or ‘verified’.
He said, Twitter is considering charging a fee for the verified token that confirms the identity of its account holder, international media reported.
Users will have to subscribe to Twitter Blue at a price of US$4.99 per month or lose their verified badge, if the proposal is realized.
Musk, who is also the CEO of Tesla Inc, however, has not made a final decision and the project could still be cancelled.
Twitter Blue was launched in June last year as the platform’s first subscription service, offering exclusive access to premium features with a monthly subscription including the option to edit tweets.
The tweet editing feature debuted earlier this month after Musk launched a poll in April showing more than 70 percent of users wanted the feature.
